We Stand Behind Our Work
No shop is perfect. We sometimes make mistakes. When we do, we will correct it and make it right for you. The Walt Eger name stands for quality so we won’t cut corners. Our warranty is in writing, but more importantly, you have OUR WORD that WE STAND BEHIND OUR WORK.
ASE Certified Technicians
Our technicians are trained and certified by the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence. We continuously train for ASE certifications with a goal of all techs becoming ASE Master Technicians. Our facility has been awarded the ASE Blue Seal of Excellence and our culture is one of constantly striving to get better. Training is our journey, not an end game.
Our Equipment is State-of-the-Art
Technology constantly changes; so we constantly add new equipment to stay current. This includes computerized diagnostic tools and on-line information services for virtually every make and model of car. We buy precision tools from top-of-the-line equipment manufacturers. We are fully equipped to handle virtually any repair your car could ever need, from oil changes to engine replacements.
We guarantee our repairs for at least 36 months or 36,000 miles. If the manufacturer’s warranty applies, the warranty period may vary, but we will let you know up front. In some cases our warranty could be longer. This warranty does not apply to commercial fleets.
We use only quality parts to repair your car — American made when possible. Our parts are primarily name brands such as AC Delco, Purolator, Wagner, Walker and Monroe for shock absorbers. As a matter of principle, and to assure quality, we will not use cheap, inferior parts.
Quality Matters – All Cars are Test Driven
After repairs are completed, at least one staff member, and sometimes two, test drive your car or truck. This assures the work was done properly and that your car is safe and ready to go.
Since 1986 we’ve been providing AC service to the public, commercial fleets, businesses and more. With the latest up to date computerized software analysis we have the technology needed to diagnose and fix it right the first time. Alternators (or Generators if you’re an old school Severn Maryland Mechanic) are an important part of your cars electrical system. Their basic job is to generate electricity for recharging the battery and helping to power electrical components of the vehicle. They can vary widely in price because of the various manufacturers, makes and models. Most Alternators are belt driven by the engine to create all that electrical power. Knowing how to test alternators, diagnose and identify symptoms are important basics for customers. Fixing cars is not an art; it is science and we have the diagnostic tools to take the guesswork out.

Your radiator houses the coolant that keeps your engine running smoothly. It is under pressure with hoses all around. If you suspect a coolant leak, it is time to "listen to your engine" and call an ASE Certified Mechanic. We run pressure tests to identify the true issue. Don't guess...your engine may depend on it.
Struts are a term often heard, but is not necessarily understood. This may be due to the fact that a strut is not an individual automotive part, but rather an assembly of different suspension components. If struts fail, numerous handling problems become evident and your safety can be compromised. Like shocks, struts can make all the difference for your riding comfort and family's safety.
A car starter motor is responsible for supplying the physical force necessary to help start a car’s engine. By engaging and spinning a car’s engine flywheel, a starter performs a vital automotive function. This function becomes all too apparent when a starter motor fails. Rather than guessing about a battery, alternator or some other issue, let our ASE Certified Mechanics diagnose your issue and fix your car right the first time.
A timing belt controls the timing of the engine’s valves. When a timing belt snaps, many engines can be ruined. It is best to replace the timing belt when you have reached the number of miles your car manual recommends for a replacement, or when you see some symptoms signaling that the timing belt is going bad. Timing belt replacement is generally not cheap, but engine replacement is a much more expensive problem. Please take it seriously if we are recommending a timing belt replacement due to mileage.
Tires are an important part of your vehicle safety. We all remember the saying “That’s where the rubber meets the road”. Walt Eger's has been providing services like tire and wheel alignment, tire rotations, mounting and balancing since 1986 in Severn, Odenton, and Fort Meade Maryland so we know how to get you back on the road in good condition. Tires have advanced in recent years and we stay on top of TPMS and other technology so you don't have to. Yes, sometimes that little light drives us crazy too!
As Mechanics in Severn MD we have seen trailer repairs and inspections regularly since 1986. Boat trailers often need repair to their axles, bearings, hubs and lights because of the corrosion in salty and brackish water. Repair and services to campers, pop-ups also need regular maintenance because of their less frequent use. Construction trailers come in for work due to their frequent use and impacts on job sites. No matter the type of trailer or need we have the experience and computerized equipment to get you back on the roads of Severn, Fort Meade, Gambrills, Odenton, Crofton, Columbia Maryland and beyond.
Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF) services are often neglected and even when performed, are often incomplete.
If a shop or dealer has done a "drain and refill" the job is not complete. A typical transmission drain and refill service replaces only 40% of the old contaminated ATF.
Transmissions are complex and actively FLUSHING the fluids is the only way to do it right. Our ASE Certified Mechanics know how to get the job done correctly. 90% of automatic transmission failures are due to overheating and fluid contamination. Let us maintain your transmission the right way.
Tune-up intervals vary from one vehicle to another. Most older vehicles with non-electronic ignitions should be tuned every 10,000 to 12,000 miles or every year, whichever comes first. Newer cars with electronic ignitions and fuel injection systems are scheduled to go from 25,000 miles to as many as 100,000 miles without needing a major tune-up. It is important to follow the manufacturer's guidelines to reap the benefits of engine performance and improved mileage. Don't worry, our team will follow these intervals closely with you.
The water pump on your vehicle is one of the most important parts on your car. A water pump circulates coolant around your vehicle’s engine to keep the car running cool. A car that runs hot, risks the entire engine. The engine may “seize” or freeze up, without sufficient cooling, rendering the vehicle useless. If the engine seizes, it will have to be replaced. Simply put, if your car overheats, STOP and turn it off. Then let a qualified Mechanic diagnose the issue.
Vehicles employ two types of wheel bearings. Older vehicles use serviceable wheel bearings that are separate components from the hub. Many newer vehicles use a hub bearing assembly with an internally pressed and unserviceable bearing. Either type of bearing application can fail after time. Bearings exist in a hostile environment of heat and friction. They require the proper amount of lubrication, but no matter how much maintenance is supplied to them, they will still wear out over time. The common shelf life of a wheel bearing, under normal conditions, is between 85,000 and 100,000 miles. Using our 45 Point Courtesy Inspection, we can keep an eye on your wheel bearings together.
Under the hood of your vehicle is a plastic container that contains the fluid for your windshield wipers. Is it full of liquid? If not, we carry a wide variety of windshield washer solutions.
Pay attention to the kind of windshield washer fluid you use. Some are concentrated, which means you need to mix them with water before adding them to the reservoir. If you live in an area that gets cold in the winter (like Severn, MD) consider a premixed washer solution that contains antifreeze. This solution comes in quart and gallon sizes and keeps your windshield clean while preventing the liquid from freezing up in cold weather. It's the little things that make all the difference in the world on a cold night. Walt Eger's has you covered.
